BYE BYE BLACKBIRD

I love this song. Hence the name of this blog:

Pack up all my care and woe

Here I go,
Singing low,
Bye bye blackbird,
Where somebody waits for me,
Sugar's sweet, so is she,
Bye bye
Blackbird!

No one here can love or understand me,
Oh, what hard luck stories they all hand me,
Make my bed and light the light,
I'll be home late tonight,
Blackbird bye bye.

Pack up all my care and woe,
Here I go,
Singing low,
Bye (bye) bye (bye) blackbird.
(tchoo tchoo tchoo tchoo tchoo tchoo)
Where somebody waits for me,
Sugar's sweet, so is she,
Bye (bye) bye (bye) blackbird.
(tchoo tchoo tchoo tchoo tchoo tchoo)

No one here can love or understand me,
Oh, what hard luck stories they all hand me,
(Oh oh oh oh)
Make my bed, light that light,
I'll be home late tonight,
Blackbird...

Make my bed and light the light,
I'll be home late tonight,
Leave you bird jet in the sky
Toodle oo!
Farewell!
Bye bye!

Blackbird
(Blackbird,Blackbird)
We'll take the flying little blackbird bye!

Mmmm... those are some yummy lyrics. This song was written and sang in 1926. Apparently the song is about a girl who leaves her prostitution biz to go home to her mother. Then there is the song "House of the Rising Sun" which is the return of the prostitute to the streets.  The reason for the song's apparent ambiguity is that the opening verse and the verses about the bluebird are rarely sung.

Bluebird bluebird calling me far away
I've been longing for you
Bluebird bluebird what do I hear you say
Skies are turning to blue
I'm like a flower that's fading here
Where ev'ry hour is one long tear
Bluebird, bluebird this is my lucky day
Now my dreams will come true
Ah... So good. Go Ray Henderson and Mort Dixon.
